"Relax.
Don't worry.
And have a homebrew."

- Charlie Papazian
The Complete Joy of Home Brewing (1984)

Whenever trying new techniques, ingredients or equipment, I try to remember this quote from Charlie Papazian. After taking two years to use my first brew kit, I try not to let the fear of failure get in the way of my home brewing efforts. The equipment, hop varieties and process seemed overwhelming for this non-scientist. But trust me, it is a lot easier than it initially seems (and a whole lot more fun, too).

For me, the beauty of Disaster Brewing is that even when you drop and shatter your 6 gallon glass carboy full of wort, then it soaks into the carpet, we’re still on-brand (then new house rules are set that do not allow beer in the house…whoops). We’re learning and growing everyday, and that’s what I love most about home brewing. Sometimes you make a crisp saison. Other times, you create a skunk beer you put in the garden to ward off slugs from eating your pea pods. Either way, you enjoy the process (typically drinking some beers along the way with friends).

I think fondly back to my time living in Vienna, long before I ever brewed my first beer (but trust me, I did lots of research during this time). I have great respect for the history and tradition of European beer brewing, refined over centuries. I strive to find this level of excellence with Disaster Brewing. Whenever possible, we at DB try to support local ingredients and businesses. Beer reflects the culture it stems from, and DB is no different.

If you’re a fellow home brewer, you know this joy I speak about. If you’re working your way towards opening that first kit, we cheers to you- the hardest part is just getting started. If you just want to drink beer, come on over and join us! Beer brings people together, and that’s definitely the case for Disaster Brewing. So many friends have rallied around me, around us, to support this hobby and grow it into something bigger. For that, I’m incredibly grateful. Thanks for your support of our journey at Disaster Brewing, and I can’t wait to see where this leads us together.
